Results of “Dystopia” Competition

There was a large and diverse entry for the final monthly competition of the year. The theme was “Dystopia” and it was a projected competition. The judge was Ross McKelvey MPAGB FIPF EFIAP/G FBPE of Catchlight Camera Club. Thanks to all the members who entered and congratulations to the winners:

Evening Trip to Kells Priory and Mill.

This week at the club is an outdoor trip. Could those intending to travel meet up in Woodie’s car park to leave at 6.30pm for Kell’s Priory and Mill. The light should be good until 8.30pm and remember to capture a few images for the Bio Diversity project.

Also remember the closing date for the last competition of the year “Dystopia”(projected) closes on Sunday 13th May.

This Thursday Julie Corcoran AIPF from Breffni Camera Club will be our guest speaker. Julie will be showing us images from her  “Dreamscapes” panel and other projected images.

The winners of the Transition Year Photography Competition are on display for the next few days in the Book Centre window.

Don’t forget that the closing date for the “DYSTOPIA” competition is Sunday, 13th May. Make sure your entries are properly sized. Check out members area if you are unsure of how to do this. Also have your entries in on time. The deadline is midnight on the 13th.

Awards Night – TY Photography Competition

Awards Night – TY Photography Competition

This Thursday night the club will hold the Transition Year Photography Competition Awards Night in the Springhill Court Hotel at 7.30pm. Now in its 8th year the winners of this year’s competition will be announced on the night. Ten schools entered over 130 photos for the competition which was judged by Emmanuelle Galisson and Terry Conroy of Portlaoise Camera Club.

The main prizes were sponsored by Canon Ireland, White’s Photo Centre and Kilkenny Photographic Society. The best 3 photos from each school and the top 4 overall will be on display on the night. Both judges will be present to give feedback to the students.

We will hold a raffle on the night and thanks to our other sponsors: Hennessy Sports, The Book Centre, The Office Centre, Paul Campion Framing and Amanda Burke Photography.

We hope to see you there to lend your support to the students and schools involved.

Winners of the Street / Urban Competition

Winners of the Street / Urban Competition

Last night in the club the winners of the Street/Urban competition were announced. The competition was judged by Paul Lanigan AIPF and he gave a very comprehensive critique on each of the entries. The winning photos are below.

The next competition is “Dystopia” (projected) and the closing date is Sunday, 13th May. We were also treated to a very relaxing and at times entertaining glimpse of bush life in South Africa by member, Dieter Rowe-Setz. The panesl from our recent entry to the SACC Interclub competition were also on display. We achieved 2nd place in the projected and mono sections and were placed 4th overall. We will also have panels in the final of the Interclub competition to be held in Mullingar in May so if you have any photos for consideration please let a member of the selection committee know within the week.
