This Thursday night the club will hold the Transition Year Photography Competition Awards Night in the Springhill Court Hotel at 7.30pm. Now in its 8th year the winners of this year’s competition will be announced on the night. Ten schools entered over 130 photos for the competition which was judged by Emmanuelle Galisson and Terry Conroy of Portlaoise Camera Club.
The main prizes were sponsored by Canon Ireland, White’s Photo Centre and Kilkenny Photographic Society. The best 3 photos from each school and the top 4 overall will be on display on the night. Both judges will be present to give feedback to the students.
We will hold a raffle on the night and thanks to our other sponsors: Hennessy Sports, The Book Centre, The Office Centre, Paul Campion Framing and Amanda Burke Photography.
We hope to see you there to lend your support to the students and schools involved.
Last night in the club the winners of the Street/Urban competition were announced. The competition was judged by Paul Lanigan AIPF and he gave a very comprehensive critique on each of the entries. The winning photos are below.
The next competition is “Dystopia” (projected) and the closing date is Sunday, 13th May. We were also treated to a very relaxing and at times entertaining glimpse of bush life in South Africa by member, Dieter Rowe-Setz. The panesl from our recent entry to the SACC Interclub competition were also on display. We achieved 2nd place in the projected and mono sections and were placed 4th overall. We will also have panels in the final of the Interclub competition to be held in Mullingar in May so if you have any photos for consideration please let a member of the selection committee know within the week.
Congratulations to the winners of the “Street/Urban” competition – their winning entries are below:

Well done to Kilkenny Photographic Society on our results in the SACC Interclub Competition held in Blarney on Sunday. We entered 3 panels – COLOUR, B&W and PROJECTED.
We came 2nd in the B&W, 2nd in the Projected and came in 4th place overall. While we weren’t placed in the TOP 3 there was only a 2 point difference between KPS and 3rd place and 4 points between us and 2nd place.
Well done to all the members who submitted photos for selection and to the selection committee who put in long hours in the selection process, printing and mounting.
We will have another chance at the finals in May.
The theme for our 8th monthly competition is DYSTOPIA. Please note the following changes. The closing date is the 10th May and the judging will be on the 24th May. This is now a projected competition and not print as earlier advertised.
