Kilkenny Photographic Society was delighted to welcome Bermingham Cameras, Canon – Ireland and Michael O’Sullivan FIPF, FRPS to Kilkenny last Thursday evening to give our members an introduction to printing. Brian Whelan of Bermingham Cameras introduced the current line up of Canon printers, Pixma Pro-10s, Pro-1 & Pro-1000. Brian also informed the society members of their current special offers available on these printers during their November sale and that current KPS members can avail of special offers and discounts on their product ranges on producing the KPS membership card. Please contact Bermingham Cameras for further details.
Shane Cowley of Canon – Ireland introduced Canon’s new mirrorless range of cameras, EOS M10, EOS M3 and the EOS M5 and also the recently launched Canon 5D MK4 and the very impressive Canon 7D MK2.
Irish Photographic Federation President, Michael O’Sullivan FIPF FRPS, gave a very interesting and informative lecture on printing. There was something for everyone on the night from the novice to the experienced printers to take on board. Michael took us through the different theories of display calibration and the various options that are available to photographers. He also introduced us to profiles for papers, and how to install them and employ them during the printing process. Michael went through the various settings that he uses when preparing for prints, setting up his preferred print settings in Photoshop for the Canon PRO 1000 printer, and to point out the various pitfalls one may encounter during this process. We looked at the various techniques available to us in Photoshop to resizing our images, the quality and media used, and sharpening methods available before the final print.
Kilkenny Photographic Society would again like to thank all involved who participated on the night and look forward to seeing all those beautiful prints in the near future!
Thurles Camera Club recently extended an invitation to members of the KPS to travel to their first meeting and bring along some of their photos ( print and projected). Those who travelled were John Cuddihy, Seamus Costello, Niall Hirsh, Andy Magan and John Hughes. They had a great night discussing their photography and there was plenty of banter about the Hurling All-Ireland. Brave men to enter the lion’s den!!
The club will hold a Picturk Workshop for Beginners on Thursday, 4th February from 7.30 – 8.00 pm. Picturk is used for the projected competitions so you will learn how to resize and upload images for those competitions. Afterwards club members Derville Conroy, Don Daws and Canice Ryan will give presentations of their photography.
