Kilkenny Photography Society 30th Anniversary Exhibition is now OPEN

Our photo exhibition, which celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Society, is now open in the Pembroke Hotel, Patrick Street (Kilkenny). It will run for Sat 17th and Sun 18th November.

The exhibition, which is open to the public, has 2 section; the first is comprised of 30 images taken in previous years by KPS members and that featured in local and nation exhibitions, while the second has almost 60 members’ photographs taken during the summer and autumn of 2013. These contemporary images not only celebrate the 30th anniversary of the society but also the vibrant and varied social life of Kilkenny city and county, and of course the the glorious summer of 2013. We hope that these images will not only provide a memory of this milestone in the Society’s history, but also a visual record of the social environment in which they were taken.

Some of our founding members are still active in the society today and play a leading role in its running and development. They’ve seen, and participated in, huge transitions in the the art and practice of photography, including the move from film to digital. Irrespective of the monumental changes in the technology of image capture, storage and print, the passion and aim of members has ultimate  remained the same:  to capture images that convey the artistic vision of the photographer and that impact emotionally on the those who view them.

During this 30th anniversary year, it’s also fitting that one of our founding members, Seamus Costello, won the prestigoius Seamus Scullane Memorial Trophy for best image in in the SACC Print & Projected competition 2013.

This exhibition celebrates 30 years of learning, creativity, art, and of course fun. Our members are as committed as ever to their photography and look forward to continued development, expansion and success during the next 30 years and beyond.
