Kilkenny Photographic Society are proud to announce that we have launched our 10th Annual TY competition for 2020. This year’s competition is kindly sponsored by St. Canice’s Credit Union, Kilkenny. St Canice’s Credit Union will not only be sponsoring the main prizes this year but will also sponsor the Pat Moore Perpetual Trophy in remembrance of their good friend and member. Pat was a well known local photographer in Kilkenny working for the Kilkenny People newspaper as well as many of the national Irish newspapers alike.

As well as potential for winning great prizes, some of the entry photographs will go on exhibition in Butler Gallery’s new location Evans’ Home Kilkenny this May and willwill be included in our 2021 calendar.

Student Eligibility:

All Transition Year students can take part across the Kilkenny, Laois and Carlow areas. Where a school does not have Transition Year, fifth year students can take part.
Closing Date: All entries must be received by the competition coordinators no later than than the 1st April 2020.


Theme:

This is an open competition and there is no official theme however we feel that the transition year competition is a wonderful opportunity for students to share some of their experiences of transition year. Such as trips or work experience they may have taken part in.

Entries: Entries will be taken in digital format.
Each school’s T.Y coordinator shall submit images via email to:

The entries can be submitted anytime between now and the closing date of the 1st April 2020.
 Each student can enter one image only. 
The three images judged best from each school will go forward for critique and final judging on the night of the Presentation of Prizes and Awards. 
Images entered in this competition will also be considered for the St. Canice’s Credit Union Calendar for 2021.

The three students with the best images from each school will receive medals on the night of Presentation of Prizes and Awards.

Registration Fee: 


There is a registration fee of €20 per school for the competition. This should be made available for collection along with the student entry forms from the school by 1st April 2020. Cheques should be made payable to Kilkenny Photographic Society. Payment can also be made directly to St Canice’s Credit Union at the following:

Presentation of Prizes & Awards and Venue:


The Venue of presentation of Prizes and Awards is yet to be confirmed.

Date: 
May 2020, date to be confirmed. Starting at 7.30pm
 Kilkenny Photographic Society will invite the students (photographers) and their teachers, of the best three images from each school, their family and friends and all participating students to the presentation of prizes and awards.

Judging: 


The judge/s will be from Kilkenny Photographic Society or Other Photographic Society and a representative from St Canice’s Credit Union but will have no association with the schools.

Competition Rules:


The competition is open to Transition Year Students and Fifth Year where a school doesn’t have transition year, in the appointed schools taking part in the competition.

Images submitted must be the work of the individual student and they must own the copyright for the image.

Each entry needs to be accompanied by a Consent form signed by each student and parent or guardian of entrant.

Entries to be sized for entry at a minimum of A4 (11.7 x 8.3), 4000 px X 3000px.

Substantial digital manipulation (alteration of a significant element of the image) is not permitted, but slight enhancement is permitted.

Images submitted for judging must be taken between September 2019 and the finish date (1st April 2020) of the competition.

The competition organizers reserve the right to disqualify any entry based on inappropriate or copyright content and any entries which do not adhere to the competition rules and guidelines.

Late entries will not be accepted.

All prizes must be accepted in full, are non-transferable and there is no cash alternatives for the prizes.

Images entered in this competition will also be considered for the St. Canice’s Credit Union Calendar for 2021.

Personal data provided by schools and students will only be used by Kilkenny Photograhic Society and St Canices Credit Union for the purposes of this competition and as described in these terms and conditions of the entry form.
